Makes sense. I guess what I'm wondering is whether the 'integration' is just an instruction to the photographer to use only one of them, and turn off the other...or if there's a way to automatically turn off sensor-based SR, etc. Not that big a deal either way, but kind of curious how far this goes. Anyway their most likely K-mount customers probably will be buying new bodies anyway which now all support SDM and include power-zoom contacts.

Pic updated! Thanks for noticing that, Andrew.

As for Sigma's OS, like I said in the article, they plan to leave it available on lenses intended for cameras with sensor-based stabilisation. However, both cannot be used at the same time, as this would require exchange of data between the lens and the body (and new firmware capable of employing this data). One other thing, for lens stabilisation to work, the lens needs power, so I don't think this will work on bodies that can only focus through screwdrive. In fact, I think many of these newer Sigma lenses are going to be HSM only, and thus will not focus on these bodies without power contacts.

One thing I thought was a little interesting is that the new Sigma 18-50/2.8-4.5's OS is supposedly enabled on all mounts, including those served by sensor-shake stabilization so that viewfinder views will be stabilized as well. How exactly this will interact with built-in stabilization remains to be seen. Anyway this is a somewhat interesting lens as Sigma's old 18-50 3.5-5.6 kit lens did not appear to be very popular, at least in the North American market--now they have something that might actually better the camera-makers' kit lenses, making this category more interesting. Their new 10-20/3.5 seems likely to be popular too (though that picture appears to be of the old 4-5.6 version).

I think it is somewhat disappointing that Oly still doesn't have a micro 4/3 release...I don't know that the 'lux-look' point & shoots they've been showing so far look all that promising.

That is so funny :) I love your sarcasm mis.... Well, I have pretty much decided to buy the camera that has won the ''UGLY AWARD'' Yes, I am still after a waterproof point and shoot and that ugly thing looks like the ticket to me. :)

The nerve of some people--reporting on the PMA without having been there to be schmoozed & boozed! Very informative as well as entertaining .

Although you lost count of the Pentax reversals on the 645D, I infer that the number must be >18--right? :~)

From my not-very-sophisticated pov, the Panasonic GH1 seems pretty intriguing.

Good round-up -- love your style! I refuse to comment on any of the new camera formats except to say that if it ain't K-mount I'm not that interested.

Funny news really.

I am in the process of acquiring Oly E620. Sigma 10-20 f3.5 is the one to watch out for.

The rest can become immediate history :)
