Photographing babies of that age is extremely difficult. I’ve always tried to avoid it but (I think) you’ve inspired me to have another go.

Good luck with the baby photos. Like I wrote, it’s not as easy as it seems, but it’s very rewarding when you get that handful of precious photos and see the parents’ faces when they view them.

I just found your blog, and have really enjoyed reading through it. I found the Baby photography article particularly helpful as some close friends just had their first baby yesterday, and I rather optimistically volunteered to take photos as my baby welcoming present.

Great article and great photos Mis. You outdid yourself on this one.

Two things to say to this.

1. If you think one minute is the “long term” for a baby you have obviously never ever been a father.

2. Here’s a little secret. Babies are not cute. Ever. Kids are cute. Toddlers are cute. Babies are just aliens, pure and simple.

A place to come back often Miserere, well done. I did a birthday announcement card of a 14 days old baby some days ago and the most difficult part was getting her with the eyes open because she was so sleepy after drinking.
The Pentax DA-50mm macro worked well and I admit that I used flash as well

I was even so cruel to take a photo series of her brothers reaction when he did not get get any more chocolate eggs.

First, I must say, I thoroughly enjoy reading… your are a gifted writer. What a perfect compliment to beautiful photos!
Second, you are being way to critical on yourself because these photos are fabulous! No one ever said my style of photographing newborns was “right”. I am so happy that you went with the flow, rather than gave up. I adore documentary style newborn shots just as much… I’m just not as good at it, hehe!
Third, WOW on that first shot! Three days old? What strength. The lighting is perfect and I can’t get over that eye contact! Amazing capture!!
