Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Become a Pro Photographer

by Peter Zack

  1. All your relatives (except Uncle Fred, who nobody likes but actually owns a camera) say you take great pictures.
  2. You are always asked (just like the friend that has the pick-up truck on moving day) to come to family events and be the “official photographer”.
  3. You just figured out what the term “fill flash” means.
  4. As a guest at a wedding, you took 342 photos and the bride loved one of them and wants a copy.
  5. At your local photo club, you’ve won an honourable mention 3 times at the monthly competition.
  6. You sold your first photo. A friend of a friend bought your photo of his cat.
  7. You got 62 very nice comments on Flickr for the flower shots. See shot above
  8. You’ve studied some professional photo sites and if you just had the same clients, you know you could copy their work.
  9. You’ve read the camera manual twice and understand all the technical stuff and stopped spelling aperature wrong.
  10. Someone noticed how big your camera is and asked if you were a “pro”.

Cheers and good shooting.

  1. Number 10 happens to me way too much. Guess it is time to go pro!

  2. Number 9 made me laugh. Is it not like color or colour….How about labor or labour?
    Or Potato or potato?

Love list Peter, now I know Mis has officially rubbed of on you. 8-)

  3. Having spent all day yesterday at a photography workshop extravaganza where there were a lot of pro photographers but also a lot of wanna be pros (I’m included in that list) I find this immensely humorous! You’ve nailed it!!!! mwhahahahaha

I haven’t read my manual twice yet so I guess I’m not ready to go pro.

  4. Oh my god, Peter, I think you just described me.

As my mother would say . . . “Riki’s camera takes really good pictures!”

    • :) it will be even better when ‘you’ take really good pictures!

I love it when people phrase it that way. Guess you’re just the holder eh!

  5. That’s a very nice shot of the flower.

  6. Awesome flower shot Dude!

Actually those comments about what a great camera you must have are really the benchmark of a pro. Not until you here that regularly do you know you are on the right path!

  7. How about “you’re using a tripod to take some of your shots”

  8. Actually #9 is something that few do, but they really should. I know a young guy who does great landscape work. His first pics from his Nikon D50 were sucking. He sat down with the book, read it from cover to cover, and applied features learned. His work improves everytime out. He knows the capabilities of his camera, but also knows that most fancy features don’t get him anywhere. It’s all about the light and the vision.

My contribution to your list – I just bought the Cokin Star Filter!
