Mark, sorry for the slow response. First the size of the baseplate on the camera
Looking at the bottom with the grip on the left
1) total width 122mm (4 3/4")
2) depth of grip end: 65mm (2 1/2") (front to back)
3) width of baseplate at tripod mount: 45mm (1 3/4")
4) tripod socket from Grip end: 77mm (3")
5) Tripod socket from other end: 45mm (1 3/4")
6) width of grip: 22mm (7/8")

As for the focus screen. I've tried to open the screen with no success. Looking at it with a magnifying glass, there's a tab to open it but it doesn't drop down easily like the k10, K20D does. The screen is held in with a frame just like those cameras. It has the tweezer tab just like any removable screen, Thing is, I've pushed the 'locking' tab back with a jewelry screwdriver and the frame doesn't seem to release. I'm not sure if it's somehow locked in place and not meant for a user to open. With my K10D, I've dropped the screen out and replaced it easily. With the K-x, no luck and I've put as much leverage pressure on the frame to drop it as I dare to.

So unless mine has a problem, I don't know that it is easily done. You might not be able to use the Katz Eye with it.

Mark, we certainly appreciate your support and the support of others here. it helps us keep the site alive and pay the server costs. Thanks very much and it's appreciated.

Miserere: I certainly will. I do appreciate both you and Peter's insight and commentary. The internet is full of opinions- many quite irrational and bias. I have read many of the posts from both of you to know I can trust the source. I have made it a habit that I buy through links of sites that were helpful in my decision making.

Two questions if I may. I wonder if you could tell me the measurement of the base of the Kx. Specifically, I would love to know if my RRS baseplate for my K10d will fit on the Kx. It appears that the published dimension includes from LCD out to the mount, which doesn't help me. If you have a way to check the mm depth of the camera base where a plate would sit flush that would be great! I am also trying to recycle my Katz eye focus screen from my K10d that I have been told would work. Have you or anyone you know tried that?

Anyway, the Kx looks to be a great camera that costs less than the K7. (You know my wife keeps making me think of the "family" first. ; ^) ) I love my K10d. But, when I look at it, what I really wish it had is a sensor with better ISO and faster and more accurate AF and better AWB. That sounds like the Kx. Many of the comments here in the review have made me less concerned with any of the 'losses' from switching from the K10d. Being able to use my RRS plate and Katz eye screen would be a hugh bonus, obviously.

Thanks again. I've bookmarked your site. I look forward to the final chapter of the Kx review.

Sincerely,

Mark

Mark, if you eventually decide to purchase the K-x, I hope you'll kindly consider doing so through one of our affiliate stores featured in the sidebar. You just need to click on the banner of your choice, place the camera in your cart and make the purchase (all within the same session). The price to you is the same and EtL receives a small commission.

Thanks!

So far I see no issues with BF or FF on this body, Mark. I've used it with about 10 lenses to this point. Thanks for the comments and I hope to have the conclusion up in a few days time!

Peter, Nice review. I have been giving the Kx a lot of thought lately and really appreciate your review and comments over at Pentax forums. Have you had any issue with needing to adjust lenses for FF/BF? I have done so with my K10d. Even so, the extra improvements with the low light capabilities and better AF have me looking at the "stormtrooper" Kx. Thanks again.

Cheers,

Mark (aka MSM @ PentaxFourms)
