Microsoft to Acquire Adobe?

Microsoft Loves Adobe

The New York Times brings us this story related to a secretish meeting held recently at Adobe HQ where the CEOs of Adobe and Microsoft chatted for an hour. There is no doubt they were talking about their respective futures in a World where Apple and Google are gaining power, but what were the conclusions? Is Microsoft courting Adobe again? Are they maybe just planning mutually beneficial strategies? We’ll find out in due course.

Microsoft has a hand in almost every aspect of computing but has failed in the image manipulation sector; acquiring Adobe, and with it Photoshop and Lightroom, they would be able to compete with Apple’s Aperture. But would this benefit current users of Adobe software? Adobe’s Creative Suite is used by thousands, if not millions of creative professionals and amateurs, many of which have the software installed on Macs. Would Microsoft continue to support Adobe’s products on Apple’s OS in the future? Where would the incentive be for them? Why help the competition?

Here at EtL we don’t think it would be a good idea for Microsoft to acquire Adobe, but maybe we’re just focusing on the cons and not seeing the pros. What’s your opinion? Let us know in the comments below.
