Codec updates from Microsoft, Nikon D800, Canon 5DMKIII and many more

Microsoft has issued an updated Codec to allow viewing of various camera file formats, including RAW in supported software such as Window Live Photo Gallery as well as other software that is based in Windows Imaging Codecs (WIC).
There is a huge list of supported cameras and some dating back well over 4 years. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

If you are not sure what a Codec is, it’s a update to the Windows operating system that allows the OS to read and open the image file(s) for your particular camera model and brand. Without it, you need specialized software like Photoshop (and many others will work as well) to view RAW files from the camera.

From the Microsoft announcement including the download link, here are the supported cameras:
