In May of last year the guys at The Camera Store in Calgary shot a funny war spoof short with an expensive bunch of camera gear. I think I wrote about it or tweeted it because it made me laugh a lot. Who says Canadians don’t have a sense of humour because it’s too cold up North?

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they had just uploaded part 2 in the series earlier today. I’m including part 1 here for those that didn’t catch it the first time it hit theatres.

This cracked me up. If you don’t get it, she’s being so sarcastic. There are some classic lines in there:

      ”…the thing where you… oh, oh shutter speed!!”
      ”…let the camera do the work for you…”

The curious thing about the video is how many dislikes there were vs ‘Likes’ Maybe all those “real” MWAC’s got the joke and were offended.

There are several videos in the set. I wonder how long she’ll keep this going.

Did you find your wide lenses just weren’t wide enough? Did you turn to a fisheye lens in search of a wider view only to be disappointed by its measly 180° diagonal FoV? Then you need the lens that created the photo of the Strahov Philosophical Library in Prague.

The maker of the lens is being kept secret for the moment. All we know are the specs: -5mm f/16 double-fisheye. Yes, you read correctly, the focal length is minus 5mm, its aperture is fixed, and thanks to its double-fisheye design it can photograph an astonishing 360° FoV!

Some days, things are going just right. Some days they aren’t. Especially if your backup camera is over your shoulder and this happens. Not too sure I’d be very happy with the videographer if I was the photographer. It’s funny but I really feel for the guy.

Computer wallpaper for Lens review readers

1. You own the camera and really aren’t sure if it actually works the way it should because some guy, on some forum, somewhere, swears that it can cook breakfast and make coffee.
2. You have a living room full of brick wall photos and there’s always room for more. You subscribe to www.brickwallphoto.com but they don’t add new photos fast enough. Camera and lens reviews add brick wall photos almost daily.
3. You haven’t looked at a newspaper in years and miss that feeling of reading the weekend edition on Sunday morning with a coffee in the den. You’re nostalgic and lens tests with newsprint comforts you psychologically.
4. You really understand what MTF means and understand how it’s measured. Math was your major and you still wear the black rimmed glasses from your graduate year.
5. You’re going to a party for the first time in 6 years and need something to talk about. Certainly everyone there will be interested in your riveting knowledge of field curvature, colour fringing, flare, ghosting, chromatic aberrations and vignetting. Your mission is to take the mystery out of the circle of confusion.
6. Viewing sample shots online is easier and cheaper than actually going out shooting.
7. You know the perfect lens is out there, it just has to be. Google just hasn’t revealed it to you yet.
8. You work on Wall St. and charts just make your blood pump that much faster.
9. When shooting, you get the deer to stand still while you measure the shooting distance from subject to camera. Each lens can only be used at its perfect object performance distance. Chance shots aren’t worth taking.
10. Bokeh is a religion, you crop all your images to eliminate the sharp subject and just print the backgrounds.

1. All your relatives (except Uncle Fred, who nobody likes but actually owns a camera) say you take great pictures.
2. You are always asked (just like the friend that has the pick-up truck on moving day) to come to family events and be the “official photographer”.
3. You just figured out what the term “fill flash” means.
4. As a guest at a wedding, you took 342 photos and the bride loved one of them and wants a copy.
5. At your local photo club, you’ve won an honourable mention 3 times at the monthly competition.
6. You sold your first photo. A friend of a friend bought your photo of his cat.
7. You got 62 very nice comments on Flickr for the flower shots. See shot above
8. You’ve studied some professional photo sites and if you just had the same clients, you know you could copy their work.
9. You’ve read the camera manual twice and understand all the technical stuff and stopped spelling aperature wrong.
10. Someone noticed how big your camera is and asked if you were a “pro”.

My friend Eli pointed this out to me, from the blokes at Canon Rumours: A Canon-L 70-200mm f/2.8 lens thermos. Full story at PDN Pulse; apparently they were being handed out at the Winter Olympics. There’s even a Facebook page about it with over 2000 fans on it already.

It looks more like a travel mug than a thermos, now that I look at it more carefully. I wonder if it’s stabilised? In any case, I’m sure whatever liquid you fill it with it will taste sharp and you won’t be able to f-stop drinking it. I woke up so hilarious today!
